Locals
Lightwood has been invited to host the investiture of Hrolf Herjolfssen and Madelaine de Bourgogne as baron and baroness of Ynys Fawr, on the weekend of the 20th and 21st of October 2012. If you’re a local, either in Lightwood (the Huon Valley) or South Central Ynys Fawr (Hobart area), you can help; here’s how.
Billetting
We would like to be able to offer people a place to stay over, to save them having to camp out or pay for accommodation. If you can offer a living room floor or a spare bed any time from Friday to Sunday, please let the steward know at eric@geeveston.net.
Accommodation Ideas
Do you know somewhere else that people could stay in the Huonville or Geeveston areas? Please let the Seneschal, Adelindis filia Gotefridi, know at liz@geeveston.net, so she can update the Accommodation page.
Babysitting
Do you like kids? We thought we did, then we realised how much of a distraction they can be when you’re running a baronial investiture. We have several dear delightful darlings who need watching like hawks while their parents are running around organising things. If you can help keep an eye on them during the event, mostly while they play together on the playground equipment near both venues, our gratitude will be boundless. Again, contact the steward at eric@geeveston.net.
Set Up and Take Down
One important rule of a large event is this: whoever helps with the set-up doesn’t have to help with the take-down, and vice versa. That means we need two teams, one to set up for the feast on Friday evening and maybe during the day Saturday, and the other to help pack up and tidy up after about 10 o’clock on Saturday night. Tasks include hanging banners, arranging furniture and moving food around; and taking banners down, moving furniture again, sweeping, mopping and taking the garbage away. Both are a lot of work until you get about half a dozen people helping, after which they just kind of fly by. Let the steward know if you can commit to either team, at eric@geeveston.net.
